This is an interesting posting. The fellow has just returned from a regional car meet and as he says "got plenty of love" from the attendees and judges. He has a one time price for the car at 15.4k if he does not sell it he is parting it out or to put it differently stripping all of the mods and returning it to its stock condition.
What I am amazed at is that it is a low mileage car in pristine condition that looks fabulous. It took from Sept 18 until Nov 23 to sell it and he had to take off all of the things that made it look great.

I have a clean 1999 GS400 for sale, stock 16" GS wheels. Everything performs on this car, it runs, drives and handles perfectly and has been a trouble free car to own. Meaning Mercedes With the search this discussion not working on my
side for some reason, I've read through about 75% of the thread and Mercedes
hasn't really been discussed too often. From what I know so far, the main hassle
with Mercedes is having to go to an authorized dealer to get the modifications
done. (As per Mercedes Canada and MB Dealership in Vancouver Canada) Personally,
I'm willing to go throught that to get the car. From what I know so far,
this would be the typical process: (Note, these steps are what the MB dealership
recommended to me, very generic)
-Find the car I want, send the VIN# to
the MB Canada to determine if the car is allowed in Canada
-If the car is
allowed in Canada, give the VIN# to the local dealership and they will give me
an estimate on the total cost of modifications for a fee of $250.
-Buy the car,
get the USA recall letter clearing it. -Do all the paperwork at the border, pay
-Bring the car to the local MB dealership to get the
-Get the letter from MB Canada(or was it the MB
dealership..?) saying the car is Canadian approved.
-Go to Canadian Tire for Federal Inspection -Submit documents to RIV Now, please don't flame me if
I have this wrong but this is what the service manager told me, and it does seem
close to the typical way of importing a car. My question is, has anyone
successfully imported a Mercedes Benz from the states? I'm looking into getting
a 2004-2005 CLK320 or 500, and I wanting to hear other experiences with getting
it into the country. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I purchased a 2006 SLK 280 that had been brought in. The procedure you outline is accurate, but MB Canada never charged $250 for an estimate of the work..what a bunch of crap that is. The modificaions were in the $7000 range though.
Another online and on site car search company. I read a reference that said Warren Buffet and Berkshire Hathaway bought into this company. I'll work with it for a few days and see what it is like.

Non Tariff import barriers are as old as the hills. CMVSS114 the Canadian
Motor Vehicle Standard dealing with theft deterrence and immobilization is the
latest in a long line of Govt. Regs. being exploited by Manufacturers and
Dealers. CMVSS114 (latest iteration) was concocted in 2003. After extensive
consultation the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers Association (CVMA), individual
manufacturers, Insurance Bureau of canada (IBC), Insurance Company of British
Columbia and other industry groups it came into effect Sept. 01 2007. What is
most interesting is that the cost to the manufacturers to put it in each car was
estimated to be $32. Equally interesting is that the European and American
FMVSS114 standards were accepted up until Sept. 2007 at which time the United
Nations ECE standard replaced CMVSS114 which had been in effect up to that time.
It should be noted that IBC and ICBC were supportive of a home grown after
market solution or the system used by US manufacturers in high theft vehicles.
All this is not cast in stone, what the politicians/bureaucrats write can be
rewritten. It is not difficult for Lawrence Cannon the Minister of Transport to
instruct his bureaucrats to rewrite CMVSS114 to accept European, US (FMVSS114),
and IBC/ICBC standards.
We have a land border with a country that makes up 90%
of the NA market, it does not make sense to have Acts/Regs. that do not take
economic and geographic reality into account. The bottom line is that Canada has
a regulation that is adding $4,000 to $40,000 to the cost of a car for the
Canadian buyers. This regulation was not supported by the manufacturers or the
insurance industry when it was being formulated in 2003-2004. The manufacturers
have found it to be very useful in the past couple of years. This abomination
has to be amended and it is not a long drawn out process to get Privy Council to
issue and amendment. Lawrence Cannon the Minister of Transport is personally
responsible for presenting his recommendations and documentation to Privy
Council. Privy Council is a subset of Cabinet, after Cannon shifts the burden to
Privy Council you can then find Flaherty and Harper responsible for adding
$4,000 to $40,000 to the cost of your car. A $32 mod adds $4,000 to $40000 to
the cost of a car, Alice in Wonderland is alive and well, living in Canadian
Govt. Regulations. It is of little use to complain to bureaucrats in RIV or
Transport Canada they are following directions from their political masters.
When CMVSS114 is amended the manufacturers will come up with another non tariff
barrier to trade, this is the nature of the beast and only Govt. is in a
position to deal with it.

2008 Acura MDX successfully imported

how an MDX is manufactured in Ontario and then it is shipped to the US and it
becomes $15,000 cheaper. I can somewhat understand a slight difference if the
vehicle was shippped from the US to Canada. I just don't get it.
I just returned this week with a 2007 Acura MDX from an Acura dealer in Las Vegas. The SUV was an Acura corporate vehicle with 2,000 miles on it. It was was fully loaded with Tech and Sport package plus a few other accessories. Saved close to $19K. Honda wouldn't give me a recall letter but the dealer made up their own and RIV accepted it. There's also a Honda website you can go to to enter your VIN and it will show if there are any recalls. RIV will accept this as well. I managed to find two dealers in other states still willing to sell new 2008 Acuras but for MSRP.

Hey, I just got home yesterday with my brand new Toyota Tundra, 07. A
saving of $15332 Cdn., based on my Cdn. pretax quote of $47220, and my purchase
price of $34338. After taking into account a $950 exchange rate saving, a $1500
BC and GST (13%) saving and the difference between Cdn. and US pricing. I bought
in Spokane Washington from a dealer, and also received a $2500 Rebate, not
available here in Canada.
The crossing at the border was uneventful, and everyone could not have been
more helpful, both US and Canadian. It took me about 16 hours of fax, telephone,
and internet work to sort it all out. Piece of cake! I have documented
everything and will provide information and a check list for any interested
parties. NOTE: Toyota US announced today, according to my US salesman, that all
sales of new product to Canada cease this morning. Used product is fine, but due
to pressures on Toyota Canada from Canadian dealers, Toyota USA has asked that
their dealers cease new automotive sales to Canada immediately.

I got my 2007 Veracruz licensed today. It was so easy, I emailed MSO, online RIV fee receipt, and recall clearance letter this morning. Called around 2:00 pm and the girl said your form is ready. hang up the phone check my email and it's there. 10 minutes at a CT, they keep the form II, just stamped form I. Went over to MTO, a long wait about 30 minutes. Paid PST and got licensed. The counter clerk was asking me about safety, I told her it's brand new and don't need safety. She verified with others and got everything ready for me in 10 minutes. The reason I think is that they are dealing with used vehicle transactions all the time and don't usually deal with new vehicles, new vehicle registration is done by dealer counter, so the dealer counter clerks are familiar with new vehicle registration requirement. If you stuck, just ask them to confirm with dealer counter clerk. I was skeptical on the clearance letter at first, it was printed from Hyundai website called "Warranty Vehicle Information" and said "no outstanding campaigns". But RIV approved it no problem.The whole process is so easy, not much different than buying local. You only need to find out a US dealer willing to work with you.I figure I saved around 12K compared to buying in Canada.Thanks OP, thanks everyone contributed in this forum and everyone who sent me leads. After doing some research on vehicle , and carefully compare option by option. I
can see the price different between US and Canada is around 6-7000$ as of today
rate exchange (almost 1 to 1).Toyota Sienna CE in US has lesser option than

Yes, I got the quote from http://www.toyota.com/, so is around 27455$ with alloy wheel and Daytime Running Lights (Toyota Sienna LE in Canada already has alloy wheal and daytime running lights )... you may get discount 800$ at max for 2008 model. For 2007 models, you can get around 2200$ discount.And the price has around: 27455$ + dealer fee: 600$ + transport (700$) = 28755 + 200$ (at the border) + Fee at Canadian Tire = 29000$ ... So basically we can save around 7000$ at most.
Just a note to report very helpful service from Subaru America.I had phoned them earlier about the RCL early in the week and they promised to paper mail and email a copy. (It was encouraging that on their computer we were already the registered owners for this VIN). I faxed them the bill of sale as requested. Send the particulars as to dealership as to who you are name, address, etc.
Arrange with your bank an American account in order to transfer your money, you can find a few references on the blog of what other people have done. There will be a service fee to transfer as well a fee for converting the currency.
The sales person Bellevue Ford will arrange to have the title info faxed to the American border at the Pacific crossing.
Arrange with ICBC a "binder" for coverage of the truck, have all of the particulars of the truck most importantly the VIN number, if you don't get the information that you need go to another agency until you get someone that knows what they are doing
72 hours later you are able to clear the necessary paper work at the American border, this is to satisfy that the vehicle is not stolen or have any liens against it. It should take a few minutes if it is not busy, Friday is not a great day to be doing this as people are rushing to get things home for the weekend. The office at the border closes at 4pm but suggest going through no later than 2pm. Even tough it is 72 hours it does not mean that it couldn't be after the 72 hours it just means no earlier.
Drive to the Canadian border and tell the guard what you are doing and you will be asked to go and pay GST, RIV importation fee ($200) an air conditioning tax ($110?) There is also info on the blog about this process as well.
Take truck to inspection facilitly, Canadian Tire, for the approval form that the vehicle has daytime running lights, speed in kilometers etc,
Take appropriate papers signed and stamed to ICBC for plates
Pay PST and insurance

So let me get this straight,
- your local dealer says that you can buy a Lariat F350 loaded for $64,000 cdn,
- a Seattle dealer, a ferry trip and a few hours drive away, says they can sell you the same truck for $43,362us
- with the exchange rate at 1.02% (roughly today's, rate) equals $44,229.
- I'm doing the math, even though I was not that great at it I think the Seattle choice is better
- add into the mix that the truck presently owned, an '02 F350 was $55,000 new
- One could have the '08 F350 with more features for a lower price than what the '02 was new
- add into the cost the RIV fee of $200, an air conditioning tax of $110
- add in your time and cost to get the vehicle or it could be called a weekend away with one's special person

Finally imported a Tacoma!!! Could have been a two day trip, but my dad wanted to tag along to see how the import process went and we took our time driving back.
- Purchase price for my Double Cab Long Bed TRD Sport w/towing was $29,000US 'out the door'.
- I opted for an '08 because I couldn't buy an '07 with the configuration I wanted in white.
- The '08's have a couple TSB's implemented (stiffer suspension, etc.) over the '07's and should have a better resale value in the future.
- I could have had an '07 for $27,750 OTT (might be even better now), but as I already stated I couldn't get the color I wanted.

I bought this MDX and a Yukon XL Denali, and I am now really torn as to which one to keep. I occasionally need more room than the MDX has, and might need to tow more than 3500 lbs every now and again. But I am not sure I want to live with the Denali's size for capabilities I need infrequently.
So I might wind up keeping the MDX and selling the Denali. I probably should pull the ad until I make up my mind. But anyway, the MDX is perfect like new, absolutely no issues. Maybe if someone waves cash I will just sell the MDX and kick myself later. Argh!

There's some misconception here about money transfers and electronic fund transfers that need to be clarified.I will give you some insight that I personally went through.
First of all, XE.com does not charge you for an EFT. You pay if you want it done the same day. I went with the no-charge solution.
My EFT took three days to move over. During this time, the money didn't come out of my account. The money only came out the day the money changed accounts.
Secondly, there is a small hassle to set up an XE account but once it's done. It's permanent. There's no maintenance fees and no charge to keep it open.XE works on a simple basis. You transfer money from one of your bank accounts to another.
In my case I registered a Canadian CIBC chequing account as my "from" choice and set up my US CIBC chequing account as my "to" account. On XE I transfer xxx dollars from my Canadian to US account. It's done almost instantly. I had a bank draft (most banks don't use certified cheques anymore) drawn from my US account. This was all done on line. I simply showed up at CIBC and paid $6 for a Bank Draft. That was it.
If you make a lot of US visits, then a XE account is the way to go.XE gives you better rates the more $$$ you trade. For $20,000+ business you should be able to get about .035-.045% above the current Bank of Canada rate. It's less than half a cent per dollar. You can call them to negotiate a permanent "spread" rate.

I got a US $ bank draft from TD for my car purchase & there were no fees using my borderless account.As far as best exchange rate, I found in Vancouver that going to "Vancouver Bullion & Currency Exchange" with cash, their rate saved me almost 1% on the conversion to US $ versus TD borderless rate. So $250 saved on $25k.

In my case, my bank wants $85 to transfer money over electronically to my US dealers' account. The dealer accepts EFTs. The other option is to bring a US certified cheque across the border. You'll need to declare anything over $10k or risk having it seized by US Customs. Some folks get a bit a grief when they declare that kind of cash.As far as the ING rate, on a $30k purchase you're still giving them almost $500. The regular bank gave me a discount exchange rate of $650!! On a $30k transfer, you should easily get a rate of $40-65 per $10k (depending on how much you actually commit to the exchange company) Sign up with a currency exchage service.
