Now don't get me wrong I think that these models are a great representation of the SC series but I thought that they were "rare". Or does this just happen to be where rare SC's go to get sold?

Posting habit

Sometimes I feel obliged to explain my posting habit or lack thereof. As I have stated in the Welcome message this blog is simply a large elegant folder for my Lexus picks, a place where I can return and find something that interests me in the event that my memory fails me. If it is useful to others then great, if not I still have my info on file. I have an interest in purchasing a Lexus and this is my somewhat detailed (dare I say anal) way of finding the best value for the cost and cataloging it.

As to posting on regular basis well we all know what "should" be done when in reality life has a way of getting in the way. Short version; I'm busy with my work and sometimes find it difficult to find time to post my latest thoughts.

My simple observation of the Lexus market as I have seen it over the last year is that it is getting slammed just like every other make and model. Pre-owned Lexus are getting slammed on price and the time it takes to sell.
This is a fantastic time to find that auto jewel and and drive away in style knowing that your Prius buying neighbour will still be paying for his ride long after your great wheels have carried you in style and comfort minus the auto payments.

I am selling my 99 GS400, and with my growing family I need to get a larger car (SUV). It has tan leather, NAV, heated seats, 6 disc CD Changer in glovebox. Moonroof, rear spoiler. Its loaded. Hey guys, I'm selling my 1999 Lexus GS400. Here are some details:
4.0 V8 300HP RWD
Beautiful Black onyx exterior with light tan leather interior
Car is in near mint condition ( exterior and interior with minimal wear)
Mechanically excellent and maintained with all records from Lexus.

Value cars are not necessarily the least expensive.

One reason the cars on the Club Lexus site are so interesting are the mods or add-ons that owners have placed on the cars. By the description and photos as well as talking to a number of owners one gets the feeling that there is passion to driving these cars and that most of the mods are either professionally done or very close to it by home shop mechanics. When purchasing a GS300/400 that is in excellent condition the chance of getting extras such as HID's, newer wheels, newer steering wheel, suspension upgrades, etc. is a bonus. That is why value is not necessarily price.

The car itself, by the look of the photos, is in great condition and highly likely has been well cared for, the bonus part are all the mods that create the great look.
For a 98gs300 in this market the price is high but therein lies the value as the owner has stated the price with an OBO added on. I will be watching this one to see if there is any action. Is there a comparable on the site where one buys a similar year car and mileage for less money and then adds the mods, I think that the cost would be over the asking price of this fine GS.

This fine vehicle was posted for sale on the Club Lexus site on Fri. May23 and was sold Sat may24. The low mileage and lower price did the trick. This is a good example of grab it when you see it as it will not last long. The price of $36,700 is more often seen on '04's. Great deal for someone.

This vehicle has a number of key features; black colour, 4WD(the ad says 4WD but it might mean all wheel drive as I don't think a 4WD model was made), traction control, tinted windows, V6, 3 litre engine, and if it is a one owner then all the better.

By the way I read that the RX300 had garnered a number of awards in its day:

• Kelley Blue Book gave the RX its Best to Hold Value Award in 1999, 2000, and 2001.^[19]
• Money magazine named the RX 300 the Best Deal on the Road in the SUV class in 1999.
• The RX 300 was Motor Trend magazine's Sport/Utility of the Year for 1999.

As the title says i have my 99 SC400 for sale....Really nice car, infact i like 99 SC better than my IS350 but need to sell it to pay off the loan for IS. Car is in excellent condition for its age. Its Mellinium Silver with beautiful Black interior. Car is fully loaded for 99. I have emailed a couple of people that own SC's and asked them their opinion about this model. One of them had seen this car and said it is very clean and in great shape. The other person said that it is the best of all the Sc's on the Club site at this time. The advantage of the 99 is that it has all the stock upgrades such as the new grill, the much improved CD player, VVTI engine and on this one specifically the owner upgraded the seats to newer perforated leather.
I like this car and fell it is a goo buy and even better buy if the owner is open to offers.

Here is a bit of a story; the post was placed on Apr 17 with a detailed description and a very detailed car fax. The first price was $10,500 but within 5 days it was lowered to $9,000. Another price drop came 5 days after that for $8,500 and then the most recent price drop on May 14 at $7,500 after which it sold.

My words:
Here is car that I have not paid attention to but looking at this post for an ES300 I am thinking that this is a good second car or a student car. I will wait and see what kind of action the post gets and see if there is some downward pressure on the price.

Summary opinions

I'd like to summarize the last few weeks of posts, to present some ideas and point out some opportunities.

First here are some updates of vehicles identified over the last month as good to great value.

- A first gen GS300 posted on Apr 29 that was on the club site for $5,300 sold for $5k or less within 2 weeks.

- An RSP SC 400 that has been on the site for sale since Jan.25 is still for sale and has dropped from a firm $13k to $11k and now taking any serious offer. It is one of two on the club site that has the very special and limited Blue colour.

Selling our faithful RX300. Bought this vehicle two years ago and it's been flawless ever since. Looks and runs like a new SUV, and couldn't be more reliable. Been on trips from Phila to Florida in it and it's been a joy. I have a Sirius Satellite Radio tuner installed that I can leave in or remove depending on preference. SUV is Gold with Tan leather interior, currently has just over 86,400 miles and has every option available except NAV. Options include Xenon Headlights, Heated Leather Seats with Memory, 6 Disc CD Changer, Auto Dimming Mirrors and Moonroof. Previous owner had transmission flush done at 60k and every 5k it has had fresh Mobil1 full synthetic oil changes. Only reason we're selling is because we wanted to downsize to a smaller wagon. I have a 1990 LS400 that I need to sell as soon as possible. I have 3 cars and will be getting a 4th, so I need to get rid of it.

Clean title, 129k miles, MINT leather, brand new LEXUS floor mats, HID headlights, LS430 16 inch wheels, recently replaced brake rotors and pads with ceramic-kevlar pads and drilled and slotted rotors. Has power everything, sunroof works, heated seats and AC work great, I have driven this car for a little over a year and had no problems whatsoever. VERY reliable, and very good on gas, for a V8.

$4,000, I am in Washington, but I will personally drive and deliver this car to as far south as southern California, if you are truly interested.

'99 Millenium Silver/Black SC300

It's time for me to move on. Originally this was my project car/occasional daily driver. The car is 100% stock with the exception of 4300k H.I.D.'s and 25% tints all around. I currently have my spare wheels on, which are multi-spoke SC400 from a previous year.

STATS:
- Millenium Silver with Black perforated leather
- Gated shifter
- Has the premium sound system with DSP and 6-disk changer.
- 112k miles
- TITLE on hand!!!!

MODS:
- 25% Tints all around
- 4300k low beam H.I.D.'s
- cutout for clutch master cylinder

THE GOOD:
- Quite possibly the most reliable car I've owned. It is mechanically PERFECT. I just completed a 300 mile round trip recently with absolutely no problem.
- Lexus smooth and quiet; no creaks or squeaks.
- Gets the expected gas mileage. 20 mpg combined hwy/city. 26+ highway.
- Oil is changed at Lexus on time.
- The brake pads and rotors were changed 3000 miles ago.
- Electronically, EVERYTHING works perfectly. The sound system is surprisingly pretty damn good for not being Nakamichi.

THE BAD:
- The front bumper needs to be repainted. It is probably easier to replace and repaint with a new bumper.
- The area behind the rear driver side wheel has been backed into and dented as a result of a hit and run. I went to a Lexus recommended body shop and it is repairable with no replacement of body paneling.
- There are about 2 stone chips that I can find.
- The rear bumper has minor hairline fractures from a rear love tap. Not noticable unless you look close.
- The right half of the climate control light is out and is common with these cars. Either get it replaced or do an LED conversion.


RATINGS:
- Exterior: I would give the PAINT a 9/10 with the exception of the front bumper, dent, passenger side scratches and minor nicks. The paint really is in good condition. A part of the rear bumper needs a touch up and I would recommend a complete replacement/repaint of the front bumper.
- Interior: I would give this a 9.5/10. There is wear on the driver's seat as you will see in the pictures. The rear seats are rarely ever used. A part of the climate control light is burnt. There is a slight chip near the volume knob of the center console trim piece.

Another even better example of an SC value car. For the cost of a few minor repairs one would have a great car with all of the benefits of the SC improvements up to '99.

Excellent car, Iam going to miss it. I have used it as a daily driver and is great to drive. Front bra area of the car has rock chips and one 3" long crack in front corner of spoiler, could easily be repainted to look new again. Rear bumper has one small scratch that possibly could be buffed out. One front rim has small flat spot from a pot hole that is barely noticeable, it will cost $125 + shipping to be repaired at Wheels America. There are no other dents, scratches or door dings in the car. I can email detailed pictures of problem area to interested parties. Can also do all repairs for extra cost. All other features of the car are in perfect shape and everything works. The best of parts were used in building the car.

I must have passed this one over when it was first placed on the club classifieds. I see this as a very good buy for two main reasons; first it is owned by a mechanic and all that means for looking after a great ride and secondly there are a whole host of mods that add great value.

This car has recently been serviced and detailed. All of the paint and interior surfaces are in great condition for the age. Car is fully loaded with all options. A/C is ICE COLD and the heat works great.

There are a few wear spots on the floor mats and the front bumper has some rash as pictured.

Major services have been completed including replacement of serpentine belt, timing belt, steering pump, transmission and brake fluid flush, oil changes every 3k miles, 4 wheel alignment, etc... Here is something I have not seen on the club before, a well looked after older GS300. This is something that one hopes to find but they are more rare than one would think. At $5,300 or best offer this has some attraction. It has low per year mileage use, well looked after by the owners, Lexus quality. I see this as good value and worth offering $500 less than asking.

1997 RSP/BLK SC400 - Austin, TX - 93K

This car has been for sale since Jan.25/08 and has just recently been brought back to life for sale on Club Lexus. I have done a bit of research on the model and it is quite a rare model with the colour combination of blue/black and no moon roof. Only a few hundred were produced and of that only a few with this colour. The seller has reduced the price to $11k and that seems to be a good value. I will be watching this one.

I'm selling my Silver 1999 Lexus GS300 that is in great condition. It has 175,080 highway miles and still runs perfect -- I used to make trips from Washington DC (where I used to work) to Alabama every so often to visit family. Modifications include:

There are minor bumps and dings, but they are barely noticeable. Some of the lights on the stereo have been burnt out. Also, the center console cigarette lighter is not functioning. Only a fuse needs to be replaced to fix this.

This is a great car and I'm sad that I have to let it go.

Well what do you think of this great looking car? The mileage is high but to purchase this as a second car it has some attractiveness, the car is very clean and has plenty cosmetic add-ons to present a very solid, cool looking car. It also seems to be well cared for over the years. Even after the price drop he is still asking for best offer, the ad was placed just 5 days ago and already the owner is dropping the price. The posts to the ad are 9, 6 of them are the owners, with 450 ad views. One more positive and that is the owner has been a longtime member in good standing. This looks good.

Socal: '98 SC300 Platinum Metallic / Blk leather 128k mi

Hey everyone I'm selling my 98 SC300 platinum metallic on black leather. It has a CLEAN title and has never been in an accident. I'm the second owner who purchased it from an elderly lady who took excellent care of it.
The car has been maintained since day one at Longo Lexus with records to prove it including the timing belt & water pump. It currently has 128M and doesn't have a single problem. The paint is shiny and in very good shape with the exception of a few scratches here and there. The body has a few dings and a small dent near the gas door (hardly noticeable due to the paint color). The interior is also in great shape. The black leather has normal wear for a 10yr old car with no rips. I swear blk leather SC's have a waaay more luxorious feel.
The sound system has been upgraded with Diamond Audio 4" Hex series components with silk tweeters. I removed the stock sub and installed a custom 10" box but is not currently hooked up. Suspension & handling is a great deal to me so I replaced ALL control arm bushings with the expensive Vlamos VFT (best bushings money can buy). That's 16 bushings total! Also changed out the steering rack bushings with Vlamos as well. The old shocks were replaced with brand new OEM's with original springs. And Daizen front & rear swaybars finish it off. All suspension upgrades have less than 5000miles. Tires are Toyo proxes with good tread left. That's all I can think of for now but will add anything I forgot.

After looking at the SC300 in Vegas I am now an expert in Sc's, well maybe not quite yet. This SC has some good value. It is a '98 with all of the SC additions on it, it has 128k miles a reasonable amount, the after market stuff placed on it is impressive as it is a completely refurbished suspension system. The present owner is the second one which is good considering the car is 10 years old. Now if it is a non-smoking car then all the better.

Back again

It has been a while since I have posted, obviously. I have been watching the different boards and ads so I will post what I have found tonight. Oh, I went down to Las Vegas two weeks ago to look at an SC300 being sold by Andy from Club Lexus, see the car here. The car was in great condition with only two points against it; it had over 300k km. and it was a smokers car. I was willing to buy it with the high miles but not the smoking part. I looked at it on the 10th of April and I see it is still for sale today.
There is still great value in the Lexus market and as I see it the value is growing every month. One of the main reasons is the market for car sales and how slow it is, something about credit. Another other is the high gas prices and the concern around fuel economy. It is a great time to buy a Lexus.

97 SC300 PDW in Vegas!

Hi, some of you know I just purchased a 04 LS430, so I need to make room and also funds for my new project,
I am letting this SC go cheap. Sorry no trades.

1997 SC300, 189K miles, white on tan,
EXterior 8/10, interior 8/10, just minimun wear and tear for a 11 yr car.
Car has no problem, Cold AC, engine is very strong, and tranny shifts beautifully. Just changed Mobil 1 oil and Toyota Type 4 tranny oil.

The story:
I bought this car from DX3 Jonny last year for 7500, since then, I put around 3000 miles on it ( I always have at least 3 Lexus so not much miles on each one of them ), I also change the stock stereo to double din in dash DVD, paint the rear bumper since there was a crack on the paint, paint matched perfectly. I am selling it only because I don't need 2 SCs and need funds for my new car.

This car has been for sale for about 10 days and has had some action but not as much as there should be, the market is sure kicking the value of these great cars. The price is $6000 and he can't even sell it for that.
What I don't like about it is the mileage, 189k, but it is a Lexus after all and how cool is it to have a second car that's an SC.
What I like about it is how great a shape it is in and that there is a history to it. I talked to the previous owner and found out how well it has been looked after.
Oh, what's with the threat to place it on Autotrader? I thought the idea was to sell the car no matter what, does he think he is doing a favour for the club members? If I wanted to sell as badly as some of the members on the forum I would have my car listed everywhere. That is just my opinion.

98 GS400 61k miles. Like new!

Well, the GS just is not getting driven as much as I like and my daily driver pickup truck is on it's last leg. I need to thin down the fleet, and unfortunatly, the fleet must include a truck.

2001 LS430 Ultra Black on Black

Guys,

I bought this car several months ago and have put maybe 30 miles on it. I am so busy with work, my new house, and trying to get my SC up and running I just don't have time for it.

Anyway, it is an Ultra edition which comes with Air suspension, NAV, Mark Levinson stereo, heated and cooled seats, adaptive radar control, parking sensors, massaging rear seats, etc etc. Basically it has every option available on an 01 LS430.

The car saw some scratches on the passenger side which have since been fixed to perfection. To make sure it looked perfect, I had the door skins and fender replaced. I can provide before and after pictures to any interested parties.

Clean title, clean Carfax. 114k. Excellent condition inside and out. Only problem I know of is that the NAV won't let you enter addresses - not sure why. I have not gone through all the records I have but there are a lot of them!

I am willing to take a loss at $17,495.
